Cargo is a musical composition by veteran songwriter and producer Paul Field. Through a gripping combination of music, dance, images, and the spoken word, Cargo tells the story of the British abolitionists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries whose tireless efforts, together with those of the African slaves themselves, ended the slave trade in Britain over 200 years ago.
This will be the first performance of Cargo in the United States.
Cargo also uses this inspiring story to to raise awareness about the many forms of slavery that still exist and the work that urgently needs to be done to ensure human liberty today.
Cargo was first performed in the UK in 2007 to celebrate the bicentennial of the abolition of the British slave trade. Since it’s debut, this musical has been performed as the centerpiece of anti-slavery and human rights events across the UK.
This spring, Cargo is coming to Upstate South Carolina for two special performances. These events represent an opportunity for our community--an opportunity to educate ourselves about the evils of human trafficking, and an opportunity to get involved in the fight for freedom. about the artist
Paul Field has been working as a professional composer, producer, and musician for more than 30 years.
He has received an Ivor Novello Award from the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers and a Dove Award (as well as two nominations) from GMA in Nashville and several awards from ASCAP in America. His production and arrangement credits range from Country and Gospel to Classical, Rock, and Pop.
Paul has written and produced songs on many Gold & Platinum records for artists around the world. Cliff Richard, Avalon, Wynnona, Rebecca St. James, Jennifer Knapp, Point of Grace, Phil Keaggy, Elkie Brooks, Tammy Wynette, Jaqui Velasquez, Natalie Grant and Michael English have all had hits with Paul's songs.
Paul has also written and produced children's songs, music for theater, television, and advertising and recently worked on several projects in partnership with Christian Aid.
In addition to Cargo, Paul has written seven musicals which have been widely performed. His musical ‘Hopes & Dreams’ toured nationally in the UK to an audience of more than 45,000 and has been produced by more than 500 local groups everywhere from large theaters to small churches.
